Uthman ibn Affan

General

Uthman ibn Affan [رضي الله عنهم] (Arabic: عثمان بن عفان‎, translit. ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, Osman) was one of the Companions of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), the Prophets (ﷺ) son-in-law on two occasions, and the third Caliph after the death of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ).

Name, Lineage, Kunyah and Nicknames

His maternal grandmother was Al-Bayda bint Abdul-Muttalib, the twin sister of Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib.[5]As-Sallabi, op. cit., pg.12

Kunya

Known by the kunyah Abu ‘Amr during Jahiliyyah, suggesting Uthman was married and had a son but little is known of the matter.[6]As-Sallabi, op. cit., pg.12 Uthman later became known as Abu Abd-Allah when his wife, Ruqayyah bint Muhammad (ﷺ) gave birth to Abd-Allah. Nicknames

Family

Battle of Badr
