by Banu Umayyah (Arabic: بنو أمية), also known as the Umayyads (Arabic: الأمويون / بنو أمية al-Umawiyyun) was a branch of the Banu Abd ad-Dar and was regarded as one of the three most powerful and influential clans along side Banu Hashim and Banu Makhzum.[1]
