Muawiyah ibn Abu Sufyan (Arabic: معاوية بن أبي سفيان‎, translit. Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān;), also known as Muwawiyah I was the son of Sakhr ibn Harb and Hind bint Utbah, as well as a Companion of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). He established what is known as the Umayyad dynasty of the caliphate, and was the second caliph from the Umayyad clan, the first being Uthman ibn Affan.
