Shaybah ibn Hashim ‘Abd al-Muttalib (Arabic: شيبة ابن هاشم عبد المطّلب ; c. 497 – 578, translit. Shaybah ibn Hāshim, Shaiba ibn Hashim) was the grandfather of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
Names and Lineage
His full name is Shaybah al-Hamd ibn Hashim ibn Abd Manaf ibn Qusayy ibn Kilab ibn Lu’ayy ibh Ghalib ibn Fihr ibn Malik ibn an-Nadr ibn Kinanah ibn Khuzaymah ibn Madrakah ibn Iiyas ibn Mudar ibn Nizar ibn Ma’d ibn ‘Adnan.[1]
Raised by his uncle Muttalib he became known by the kunya ‘Abdul-Muṭṭalib (Arabic: عبد المطّلب) which means slave of Muttalib.
